Guten tag, Arcians. Put on your rain boots and rain coats and bring your umbrellas and note pads. It’s going to be a downpour and something doesn’t feel quite right tonight…
You’re wandering along a manicured side road in quite a posh, English neighborhood that reminds you of the movie Mary Poppins. You’re walking home one evening when the heavens suddenly tear open, releasing curtains of rain, soaking you completely before you’re able to dash under some trees for cover. There’s a rumble of thunder in the distance and you begin to rethink your choice of shelter. The rain is freezing cold but when you step out, you’re quite blinded by the rain and are afraid of being hit by a car. It looks like you’re stuck, at least for a little while.
While contemplating your predicament, a movement catches your eye. A man in a newsboy hat, dressed completely in varying shades of brown, is standing at the street corner, surveying his surroundings. He appears quite at ease and deftly steps aside to allow a car to pass by. The car drives through a deep puddle and the splash rises–and deflects–off the mysterious man.
You stare, dumbfounded and wonder if perhaps the light of the headlights made you see wrong. The man begins to whistle a tune, one that doesn’t exactly match any song or tune you’ve heard before. He meets your eye and begins walking towards you, his shoes perfectly dry, his hair neatly combed back.
You have a feeling this being is something that is normally not seen. A being that normally doesn’t want to be seen. But now he’s approaching you, as you stand huddled and shivering beneath the trees, and you begin wondering if the being is good, evil or indifferent–and just how fast you can run in wet clothing.
He stands before you, less than six feet away, appearing quicker than you thought possible. His eyes gleam yellow, his coat perfectly dry. You want to scream, you want to escape. But something holds you in place. You want to know more…
Take it from here. The rules are below. Write on.

- Keep it PG. Pretend your great Aunt Gertrude would read it and disinherit you if she smelled even the faintest whiff of impropriety.
- No word limit. Just please don’t try to out write the greats.
- You can do descriptives, a story, whatever your imagination comes up with.
- Repost on your blog to increase the fun (optional). I do like to be pinged back so I can read and comment on your works.
- What exactly is this Rain World?
You have until Wednesday, July 31st, 11:59 p.m., EST to make your post. Author reserves the right to approve and disapprove comments at her own discretion.
